The Big Draw: Create a Zulu Army!
Come and draw a Zulu warrior for us at the South Wales Borderers Museum, Brecon on any weekday throughout October. UPDATE: See some of the most recent submissions! As part of The Big Draw, a UK nationwide, month-long celebration of drwing, we’re hoping to recreate the 4,500-strong Zulu army that attacked soldiers of the 24th Regiment at Rorke’s Drift on 22 January 1879. Many schools will be contributing their drawings of Zulu soldiers. The more visitors to the museum and to this website who join in, the more likely we are to recreate all 4,500 Zulus, with their spectacular headdresses and uniforms.
This page contains examples of what these brave warriors looked like from some young artists as well as older ones!. We’ll provide drawing materials at the museum – you provide your drawing!
If you live too far away to visit our museum, you can still join in The Big Draw by sending us your drawing of a Zulu warrior, no bigger than A4, with your name and address on the back, plus school/college and age if appropriate. It would be great to receive drawings from Zulu Club members and from our many friends overseas, especially South Africa. You can also submit your drawings: By post to: The Big Draw, SWB Museum, The Barracks, Brecon LD3 7EB, UK By email to: swb@rrw.org.uk Remember, YOU could help us reach our target of 4,500 drawings of Zulu warriors!
