Education at the Royal Regiment of Wales Brecon Museum

Tips for a Successful Visit

STAFFING
All museum staff are involved in our education provision. The Education Advisor is an experienced teacher. We ask that schools have a ratio of at least one adult per 15 pupils, preferably one per 10 pupils.

MAKING A BOOKING
Please contact the museum to arrange a mutually convenient time for your visit. Usually the best way to contact us is to telephone the Education Advisor, Alison Hembrow, on 01874 613311 or email alison.hembrow@rrw.org.uk to check the availability of your chosen date(s) and discuss the plans for your visit. To ensure all our visitors receive the best service, we usually book just one group per morning and one per afternoon.

SPECIAL NEEDS
If you need any special arrangements e.g. for special needs pupils, do discuss them with us and we will do our best to accommodate your requirements e.g. by adapting workshops.

ACCESS
The Education Room is upstairs and has dedicated toilet facilities. All other public areas of the museum have wheelchair access. There is a disabled toilet near the front door.

PACKED LUNCHES
A room (or, in fine weather, a garden) can be made available for your pupils to eat their packed lunches.

PARKING
There is on-street parking immediately outside the museum and a coach park 5 minutes' walk away. Sometimes parking is available by prior arrangement in the Barracks next to the museum.

COST
We make no charge for our educational services, but would appreciate donations towards our expenses.

MAKING A DAY OF IT…
You may wish to combine your visit here with a visit to other nearby sites. Possibilities include Brecon Cathedral (and Regimental Chapel), Brecknock Museum, the Mountain Centre or Theatr Brycheiniog.

LOAN BOXES
Loan boxes are available to local schools which use our workshops. A box can be booked for a month (£10) or half a term (£15). Schools might find a loan box useful for introductory work on handling artefacts in the month before attending a workshop, or as a focus for follow-up after coming to the Museum.

FOLLOW UP
If you wish, the Education Advisor can come to your school to follow up your visit to the museum.
